'Smash victims taken so young'
AN AMMANFORD family has paid tribute to "a much-loved son, brother and friend" who was killed when the car in which he was travelling crashed into a Glanaman pub.
Dean Llewellyn, who lived in Heol Llwchwr, Parcyrhun, was travelling with his friend, Andrew Kent, in a Ford Fiesta that smashed into the Cross Keys pub, in Cwmaman Road, at 2.45am on Monday morning.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Less than 24 hours later, the wall that the men, who were both in their early 20s, had crashed into was covered in flowers and tributes.
One read, quite simply: "To Dean, a good person has been taken away from us, you will be missed."
In a statement released through Dyfed-Powys Police, Dean's family also paid a glowing tribute.
"We sadly mourn the loss of a dear son, brother and friend in a tragic accident.
"He has been taken away from the family he adored before his time."
Andrew, who was a youth worker in Swansea and lived in the Manselton area of the city, also had many friends in the Ammanford area after performing as a DJ in the Tycoch nightclub.
Dai Griffiths, who owns the club, said: "Both these boys have been taken so young. Our hearts go out to their families.
"Everyone is so upset. The two of them had their whole lives in front of them."
He added that Andrew, who was part of the Happy Hardcore scene had been due to DJ at the club this Saturday.
"We will now be organising a tribute night instead," he added.
Former town mayor of Cwmaman, Kevin Madge, said his thoughts were with both families after the crash, which happened less than 100 yards from a memorial garden for Aaron and Gavin Matthews, who were among four youngsters killed in a smash in Pontaman in 2005.
"I know what these parents have gone through, and it's horrific," he said.
"My heart goes out to the friends and families of the boys." he added.
