Children join county clean-up
SCHOOLS and voluntary groups from across the county are rolling up their sleeves for this year's Clean up Carmarthenshire campaign.
The big spring clean is taking place throughout May and June and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Scores of pupils - including youngsters from Ysgol Rhys Pritchard, Llandovery and Ammanford Junior School -have already signed up for their free clean-up kits from the council.
Sustainability officer Tina Brice said: "The annual Clean Up Carmarthenshire campaign is going from strength to strength.
"The number of clean-ups taking place increases every year - it is just a shame that there is still a minority of people out there who don't take pride in their community.
"The council spends more than £2.7 million each year in cleaning up litter, chewing gum and dog fouling from public areas. If the council didn't have to use its resources on clearing litter, then it could be put to better use."
