999 crew free baby from car

LLANDEILO firefighters came hotfoot to the rescue last week when a young mum accidentally locked her baby in her car.

The Salem woman had placed her car keys on the seat when the door swung shut, trapping the infant inside.

But the fire crew were able to crack the lock on the door without disturbing the sleeping tot, who remained oblivious to the entire drama.

"The firemen obviously didn't want to smash the window with the little one inside," one villager, who did not want to be named, told the Guardian.

"It was a case of using stealth, rather than brute force.

One of the firefighters said: "The mum wasn't panicking, but she was obviously concerned.

"Most of us have found ourselves in this type of situation - when you lock yourself out of the car.

"On this occasion, there just happened to be a baby inside when it happened."
