Town firefighters battle their biggest blaze
LLANDEILO firefighters helped tackle one of the largest blazes south-west Wales has ever seen over the Easter weekend.
They received an early Sunday morning call-out when a huge fire broke out at the disused Royal Gate House Hotel, on Tenby seafront.
Forty people were moved to safety after the five-storey building was engulfed by flames at around 11pm on Saturday.
The Llandeilo crew wasdispatched to the Cleddau Bridge to provide cover for Pembroke Dock, Haver-fordwest and Milford Haven as services - in the words of one Towy Valley firefighter - "were at full stretch".
They were among 14 fire and rescue vehicles at the incident, along with three aerial units.
The team were then sent into Tenby, where they assisted colleagues in damping down the blaze and helping in the massive clear-up operation.
The hotel was empty and no-one was hurt, although nearby residents were moved to safety.
Two men who were arrested have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
The cause of the fire is still unclear.
